Abstract

|
I conducted the use of a new polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel as a bucking material in the rabbits because of its good physical properties, softness with rubber-like elasticity and microporosity, my observations showed the PVA hydrogel implants to be nontoxic and well tolerated by the oeular tissues in the rabbits. There was no infection, rejection, extruions of implant, nor erosion of the ocular coats. The present study indicated that this new material has the properties that can solve the problems remained with respect to erosion and infection caused by silicone rubber and silicone sponge implants.
